Greek PM calls on Turkey to 'give diplomacy a chance' amid tensions over energy exploration

Updated 2020.09.26 17:46 GMT+8

Greece on Friday appealed to Turkey for a diplomatic solution to their territorial dispute in the eastern Mediterranean. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis accused its neighbor of aggression with its recent search for energy resources in the region, which Ankara denies, but he said it was time to move on. The tone of the dispute has softened in recent weeks, with both sides agreeing to begin exploratory talks. Turkey last month sent a vessel backed by military frigates to hunt for oil and gas reserves in the waters also claimed by Greece. And Greece responded with naval exercises as a warning.
