What're the prospects of relations between China and Japan under a new prime minister? Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had their first phone conversation since Suga took office. Xi said the two sides share common interests, including regional peace and stability, and an open, fair regional trade environment. Suga seeks to push bilateral ties to a new level. He said Tokyo would work with Beijing toward an economic partnership deal by the end of this year. Can bilateral ties indeed take off under Suga?
