India reported its smallest daily rise in coronavirus deaths since August 3 of 776, taking its total confirmed cases to 6.15 million after 70,589 new infections were detected in the previous 24 hours. The country's death toll now stands at 96,318.
Mexico's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 733,717 as 3,400 new cases were added, and the death toll climbed to 76,603. The government plans to formalize its participation in the COVAX Facility, a global initiative to ensure equitable access to any vaccines against COVID-19.
Brazil reported 317 new deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's death toll to 142,058. Meanwhile, 13,155 new infections were reported, taking the total caseload to 4,745,464. The health ministry said six states are witnessing a rise in deaths, while 11 have stable outbreaks and 10 are seeing a decline in new cases.
South Korea reported 39 new infections on Monday, the fifth day of double-digit rises. It brought the country's total infections to 23,699, with 407 deaths. Health authorities urged people to stay home and refrain from gatherings ahead of the Korean thanksgiving holiday of Chuseok beginning on Wednesday.
The Netherlands recorded 2,921 new cases, which put the nationwide total to over 115,000 and the death toll over 6,000. The government on Monday announced drastic new measures to limit crowds and social contact between people, but without a national lockdown, for three weeks starting on Tuesday.
