Thousands flee as wildfires hit California's wine country

Fire devoured parts of northern California's wine country on Monday, forcing over 50,000 to evacuate their homes in Sonoma and Napa counties. The latest inferno began with the Glass Fire at 3:50 a.m. on September 27, and two subsequent fires merged with it, consuming 44 square kilometers of land. More than 8,100 California wildfires have scorched 14,970 square kilometers of land this year so far, destroying more than 7,000 buildings and killing 26 people.
