Three rockets landed near a U.S.-led coalition military base outside Erbil International Airport in the Iraqi semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan on Wednesday night, CNN reported, citing officials from the U.S. Defense Ministry.

There are no reports of casualties yet. It was not immediately clear whether the U.S. troops, the Iranian opposition group or both were the target of the attack.

Unidentified militants fired six rockets from a village located between the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga security forces in the west of the Kurdish regional capital of Erbil, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Three of the rockets were destroyed in the air by the U.S. air defense weapons. The other three landed near the international coalition's base outside Erbil airport.

On September 23, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had warned Iraq's leaders that the U.S. plans to close its embassy in Baghdad unless the government stops Shiite militias from targeting diplomatic missions in Iraq.
