Scenic spot fire kills 13 people in N China's Shanxi Province

At least 13 people were killed and 15 others were injured after a fire broke out at a scenic spot in Taiyuan City, north China's Shanxi Province on Thursday, according to local authorities.

The Work Safety Committee of China's State Council will supervise the investigation into the accident, and the Ministry of Emergency Management will organize 14 working groups, respectively, to carry out a comprehensive safety inspection of high-risk tourism projects, large amusement facilities, and large performance venues, to ensure safety and stability during the festival.

All the 15 injured have been sent to hospitals and are in stable condition, and an investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, the official said. 

The fire engulfed an exhibition hall of snow sculptures around 1 p.m. at Taitaishan scenic site in Xiaoshanyan Village in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi, according to the information office of the provincial government.
