Trading has been halted in all shares listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Thursday morning due to a problem with the system, the Japan Exchange Group Inc. said.

The bourse said it has identified a glitch when it comes to transmitting trading data and receiving trading orders and cannot confirm when trading will resume.

The Tokyo bourse's off-hours trading has also been halted, officials said, adding that trading has also been suspended at bourses in Sapporo, Nagoya and Fukuoka.

The Japan Exchange Group said the Tokyo Commodity Exchange has not been affected by the technical issue, however and Futures trading on the Osaka Exchange began as usual.

The halted exchanges were due to start trading at 9:00 a.m. local time and according to local media reports the glitch that has affected trading has significantly impacted the 3,700 companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange alone.

The technical glitch and subsequent suspensions are having a significant impact on businesses and individual investors, according to local media.
