Village on the Desert Highway
02:28

Lancheng Village is completely surrounded by the desert. The village, with a population of about 400, in west China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was isolated from the outside world until the 1980s, when a newly constructed highway reached there. Before the road was built, villagers – mostly herdsmen – used to roam around the region for water and make a living on animal husbandry. CGTN’s Li Jianhua finds out how people have benefited from the connection through the Desert Highway.
