What role has the United Nations played in the Gulf War?

In 1990, the United Nations was confronted with yet another armed clash, this time between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and its neighbor Kuwait, in what would become known as the Gulf War. The United Nations responded quickly as it adopted resolution 660, condemning Iraq for aggression. After years of Cold War paralysis, it seems the Security Council can now act decisively.
