Watch: Desert view along the Tarim Desert Highway

It's one of the world's longest roads crossing desert. This is the Tarim Desert Highway. It goes across the Taklamakan Desert, China's largest and life-threatening drifting desert. It was first built to transport oil out from under the endless sand dunes. Some oil field workers have lived and worked here for decades. A total of 108 well houses were built to irrigate the green belts on both sides of the road to protect it from the drifting sand dunes. CGTN reporter Hu Chao tells you more about the desert and the road.
