Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed on Thursday to donate $10 million to UN Women within five years, to accelerate the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
The Chinese president's promise came while delivering a speech via video at the High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Beijing's World Conference on Women.
He called for the protection of women's rights and improvement in their well-being through development, and by mobilizing their enthusiasm, initiative and creativity, to build up their sense of fulfillment, happiness and security, and to enable them to have and enjoy varied lives.
Xi also proposed more cooperation in realizing gender equality and empowering women around the globe.
