Iga Swiatek, WTA's No. 54, beat Simona Halep 2-0 in women's singles Round of 16 match on Sunday, creating one of the biggest upsets at Roland Garros this year.

When Swiatek and Halep met last time in the French Open in 2019, it did not take Halep much efforts to knock out Swiatek.

This time, the 19-year-old took the upper hand from the beginning as she achieved a service break to lead 2-0 after two games. Though Halep managed to hold in the next one, that turned out to be the only game she won in the first set.

Halep's decline did not stop in the second set as she lost her first service and soon trailed 0-2. She managed to survive four break points to win Game 3, but that seemed more like the last glow of the setting sun. In Game 5, Halep went through five break points but failed to save the sixth one. With a 4-1 lead in hand, Swiatek only waited another three games to win the second set 6-2.

"I felt I was playing perfectly. Even I am surprised that I could do that," said Swiatek after the victory.

The painful loss on Sunday put an end to the 17-straight-win record of Halep. Swiatek will meet Martina Trevisan from Italy in the quarterfinals. Trevisan extended the day of upsets by eliminating the fifth-seeded Kiki Bertens on Sunday.

"I'm living in a dream. On my God, I can't believe it," said Trevisan who ranks No. 159 in the world.
