Bosten Lake is the largest lake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and one of the biggest inland freshwater lakes in the country. It's also an important source of fish for the region. The freshwater lake is a lifeline for many fishermen. In the 1960s, various carp species were introduced to it, and a decade after that, they became major targets for the fishing industry.
