Classic Beijing cuisine: Soybean paste noodles
01:31

Although not as fancy as Peking duck, Beijing Zhajiangmian or noodles with soybean paste is a must-try delicacy when wandering around the antiquated alleys of the Chinese capital's hutongs. The dish consists of thick wheat noodles topped with soybean sauce, and garnished with sliced vegetables like cucumber, radish or bean sprouts. In northern China, noodles are an essential part of birthday feasts because it is believed that "the longer the noodles, the bigger the wish for long life." Join CGTN's Jessica Zang for a bowl of delicious Beijing Zhajiangmian.
