Kuwait's new Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad has taken oath of office in parliament. In his speech to lawmakers on Thursday, he reiterated Kuwait's commitment to democracy and peace. He also called on Kuwaitis to shun divisions. Parliament voted to endorse the 80-year-old veteran security chief for the role, following his naming as second in line by the new Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. It comes as Kuwait attempts to shore up pandemic-ravaged finances, and amid tensions between its larger neighbors Saudi Arabia and Iran.
