Earthquake early warnings can effectively reduce disaster damage. A three-second early warning is estimatedly able to reduce casualties by 14 percent, while a ten-second warning could be able to reduce casualties by 39 percent, and a twenty-second warning could reduce casualties by up to 63 percent. Between one and two minutes after the earthquake, early warning systems in China are able to automatically issue warning results through Weibo, WeChat and other new media platforms, reaching hundreds of millions of people in a minute.
