The Gaoligong hoolock gibbon was the first anthropoid ape named by Chinese scientists. The white lines near its forehead earned it its Chinese name, "white-browed gibbon."

Running from southwest China's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau all the way to the Indochina Peninsula, the Gaoligong Mountains form magnificent massifs over 600 kilometers. It has become one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet.
