Australia's Victoria State of Emergency extended by four weeks

The State of Emergency and the State of Disaster in Australia's Victoria state were extended by four weeks till November 8, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced at a press briefing on Sunday.

"That's simply a four-week extension. No one should read anything more into that in terms of it being key dates for shifts in rules," he says. "I've just signed paperwork to extend the state of emergency and the state of disaster from tonight to 11:59 p.m. on November 8."

Victoria recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours.

Andrews also introduced new rules that will come into force from Sunday midnight, with close contacts of a coronavirus case ordered to complete 14 days of isolation now must take a virus test on day 11 or complete a further 10 days of quarantine.
