Updated 2020.10.12 12:02 GMT+8

The Chinese mainland on Sunday registered 21 new COVID-19 cases from overseas, the National Health Commission announced on Monday.

Meanwhile, Qingdao City in east China's Shandong Province reported six new confirmed local cases in the early hours of Monday, which have not been included in the National Health Commission's tally.

It comes after the discovery of three asymptomatic cases on early Sunday associated with the Qingdao Chest Hospital, which has been treating COVID-19 cases arriving from overseas.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the source of the local cases in Qingdao.

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 5,182 (4,919 recoveries, 105 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 527 (488 recoveries, 7 deaths)
