China's Tibet declares major victory in agriculture development
The Tibet Autonomous Region has achieved a "major victory" in alleviating poverty, Wu Yingjie, secretary of the Communist Party of China's (CPC) regional committee, said on Thursday. He gave examples of how industries in Tibet have developed and helped raise local residents' income. "In the past, people grew highland barley, and the net profit from 666.5 square meters of farmland was around 500 to 600 yuan. But now, we changed to vegetable greenhouses, and they could earn around 100,000 yuan out of the same size of farmland," Wu said.
