China and the Philippines have reached consensus on joint developing energy projects in the South China Sea and built a consultation mechanism, according to China's Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Ministry, made the remarks following reports that Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has lifted a moratorium on petroleum exploration in the South China Sea.

China hopes that the two sides can meet each other halfway and promote positive progress in the joint development of energy in the South China Sea, Zhao told reporters.
