A five-alarm brush fire erupted on Sign Hill in South San Francisco on October 16, where the famed "Industrial City" sign is located, prompting mandatory evacuation orders for the surrounding area.

Aerial video showed plumes of billowing smoke and orange flames.

The fire was contained about two hours later, but local officials warned it was too early for residents to return to their homes given the dangerously hot, dry and gusty conditions that can fan fires.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
