Buses in Chinese city show traffic light status on rear-end LED panels

Today, some large-sized buses in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, have LED panels installed on their rear screens to show traffic light status in real-time to the drivers behind.

These LED panels could prove really helpful in reducing accidents, such as rear-end collisions caused by drivers' failure to see the traffic lights blocked by buses.

These intelligently upgraded buses also have internal 360-degree cameras which greatly reduce the chances of accidents due to drivers' blind spot.

Moreover, these buses also feature a driving assistance system: when the bus has a driving speed exceeding 60 km/h and deviates from the lane, or the distance between the bus and the vehicle in front becomes less than the preset threshold, the alarm will ring. In addition, if the driver smokes, makes a phone call or is fatigued, the system will issue a voice reminder.

Many Chinese netizens have given a thumbs-up to the solution. On China's Twitter-like Weibo, a netizen nicknamed @MQ_MQ_ praised the design, saying he felt really anxious driving behind a bus as he couldn't see the traffic lights.

There are currently over 2,000 buses in Changsha that have been transformed into such intelligent vehicles. A full coverage of smart buses is expected to be achieved across the city in the next three years.
