"The early bird gets the worm" is an adage that rings true at the Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

When students join a  "wake-up" association, they get free breakfast and morning calls, allowing them to make full use of their campus time.

The association, which aims to motivate students to wake up early and make good use of their day time, has been gaining attention on campus as well as on social media, with many praising the move.

To motivate students to wake up early, members of the association offer free breakfasts and wake-up call services for members, with up to 1,000 calls in a week.

Students who wake up early may get free breakfast. They are offered in hand-written vouchers, which are tied to small lanterns and hung on plants in the campus. Those who can find them are offered free breakfast packages, including milk, bread and sausages.

Meanwhile, students who find they have difficulty waking up early can apply for "wake-up" call services. Members in the association are divided into groups, and each group has a volunteer to make phone calls to students every morning between 6:00 and 7:30 a.m.

Besides, the association also sketches out time schedules for its members, helping them make good use of their time.

Gaining popularity among students on campus, the association's membership has grown from 50 to 700 since it was established in 2018.

Many students find the "wake-up" campaign launched by the association practical since it helps them utilize time effectively.

Li Kangkang, founder of the association, said his initial goal was to help students become more self-disciplined and make the four-year college life more meaningful.

Xi Yadong, an administrative teacher at the university, praised the association, saying that the campaign helped students wake up earlier and have more time to study and participate in various activities, making college life more fulfilled.

XAUAT is not alone in such a "wake-up" association campaign, many universities in the country had launched "wake-up" clubs and campaigns to motivate students to cherish the time in the morning and make good use of the day time. The most common activity is the popular early-morning English-language study session, with students gathering at a corner on campus to practice English with each other.
