The Chinese people have never forgotten the contributions made by the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) army and other individuals to the victory of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953), Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday.

Xi made the remarks during a speech at an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the CPV army entering the Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) at the height of the war.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that although 70 years have passed since the beginning of the war, the Chinese people have never forgotten the immortal achievements made by predecessors of the revolution in upholding international justice and safeguarding global peace.

He said that the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea is an example of modern warfare in which there was great disparity in the military power of the parties involved.

However, after strenuous efforts in fighting, the Chinese and DPRK armies finally prevailed over the U.S. army, which was regarded as undefeatable, and forced the invaders to sign an armistice agreement on July 27, 1953, Xi added.

The Chinese president also honored veterans who participated in the war and paid tribute to more than 197,000 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, people and peace.
