Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos once again proved to be the man for the big occasion as he converted a fiercely debated penalty to help his side to a 3-1 win over rivals Barcelona at an empty Camp Nou in La Liga on Saturday.

Ramos, making a record 45th appearance in the "Clasico" fixture, was awarded the spot-kick following a video assistant referee (VAR) review, after falling in the area when his shirt was tugged by Barca's Clement Lenglet as the pair contested a corner.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman said: "I don't understand VAR, I think it is only used to make decisions against Barca."

"You always get shirt tugs like that in the area and I think Ramos makes a foul on Lenglet first. There's a tug of the shirt, but not enough to make him fall behind as he did. For me it's not a penalty.

"We have had five matches and [VAR] has only been used to go against Barca. It's never gone our way.

"The decision had a big influence on the final result, because we were playing well up to the penalty."

Ramos said: "I think it was a very clear penalty. He tugged my shirt when I was jumping for the ball and it's as clear as daylight. It's unfair to criticize a referee for a decision as clear as that."

The result takes Real top of the fledgling La Liga table with 13 points from six games, six points above Barcelona.

Unstoppable Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick, taking his tally to 10 goals in five Bundesliga games, as the defending champions thumped hapless Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 on Saturday.

The prolific Poland forward fired Bayern in front after 10 minutes when he was given too much space by the Eintracht defense and headed the second from a corner before the half hour.

He completed his hat-trick in the 61th minute from Douglas Costa's pass before substitutes Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala added two more goals.

Champions Liverpool got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, but their likely title rivals all dropped points on Saturday.

Diogo Jota's second-half header earned Liverpool a first win in three league games to lift them joint top with Merseyside rivals Everton.

Manchester City's stuttering start continued as they drew 1-1 at West Ham United while Manchester United and Chelsea played out a drab 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace moved up into the top five as they beat bottom club Fulham 2-1 with goals by Jairo Riedewald and Wilfried Zaha.

Italy forward Kean, who joined the capital side on loan from Everton during the close season, found the back of the net twice in the first half and Kylian Mbappe came off the bench to score a double to put PSG on 18 points from eight games.
