Farmers in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, have turned the Gobi Desert red by leaving their harvested chili peppers out there to dry on Monday. Xinjiang is one of the country's major chili growing areas, with an annual production of 250,000 tonnes of dried chilies, accounting for one fifth of the nation's total.
