Chinese mainland reports 47 new COVID-19 cases, 23 from Xinjiang

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday registered 47 new COVID-19 cases, including 23 identified in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 24 from overseas, the National Health Commission announced on Thursday.

A total of 16 new COVID-19 asymptomatic cases were also registered and no deaths related to the disease were reported on Wednesday, the commission said. A total of 543 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 5,310 (5,063 recoveries, 105 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 550 (508 recoveries, 7 deaths)
