India's COVID-19 cases climb to 8.08 million 

On Friday, India reported 48,648 new coronavirus infections related to the past 24 hours, bringing its nationwide cases tally to more than 8.08 million, according to local health authorities. 

The country also recorded 563 new fatalities due to COVID-19, pushing its death toll to 121,090.

For now, India has the second highest number of infections worldwide, behind the United States.
