Chinese mainland reports 33 new COVID-19 cases, 27 from overseas

On Friday, the Chinese mainland registered 33 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, including six local cases from Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 27 from overseas, the National Health Commission announced on Saturday.

A total of 38 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Chinese mainland on Friday and 611 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19 related deaths were reported on Friday, the commission said.

As of Friday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 85,973, including the 355 patients still being treated.

Altogether 80,984 patients have been discharged after recovering, and 4,634 have died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 5,320 (5,082 recoveries, 105 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 554 (514 recoveries, seven deaths)
