Barcelona made it four La Liga games without a win on Saturday after failing to beat 10-man Alaves, a 1-1 draw leaving Ronald Koeman's side sitting 12th in the table.

Luis Rioja put Alaves in front at Mendizorrotza after an error from Barca goalkeeper Neto, with Antoine Griezmann equalizing in the second half, a minute after Jota Peleteiro was sent off.

But with almost half an hour left and an extra man, Barcelona were still unable to find a winner, instead settling for a draw to go with recent defeats by Getafe and Real Madrid, and another draw against Sevilla.

It means Madrid, who had earlier won 4-1 at home to Huesca, now sit eight points clear of their Catalan rivals while Atletico are six ahead after they beat Osasuna 3-1. Atletico will go top if they win a game in hand.

Liverpool moved clear at the top of the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win over West Ham United, while Chelsea and Manchester City also enjoyed victories on Saturday.

Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 score-line at winless Burnley while City edged Sheffield United 1-0 away with full back Kyle Walker scoring against his former club.

Liverpool are top on 16 points, three more than local rivals Everton.

Juergen Klopp's Liverpool side still look far from their best but will be encouraged that they extended their unbeaten home tally to a club record-equaling 63 games despite being below par and missing several regular starters.

Bayern Munich won 2-1 at Cologne on Saturday with goals from Thomas Mueller and Serge Gnabry returning them to the Bundesliga summit as coach Hansi Flick rested top scorer Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski's absence was hardly felt with the visitors in control from the start despite Flick's rotation that also saw Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman rested.

They earned a 13th-minute penalty when Gnabry headed the ball onto Marius Wolf's arm.

In Lewandowski's absence, Mueller stepped up to score his fourth goal of the season with a well-placed spot kick as he equaled former keeper Oliver Kahn's club record for most victories (260).

Gnabry then got onto the scoresheet himself with a strong run down the wing and a powerful left-footed effort in first-half stoppage time to seal their fourth straight league win.

"We did not have the feeling that we were very solid," Gnabry said.

"We lost possession far too often in the second half. It was not our best game today but at the end we have the three points and we are happy."
