Chinese mainland reports 24 new COVID-19 cases, 21 from overseas

The Chinese mainland registered 24 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, including three cases of local transmission in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 21 cases from overseas, China's National Health Commission announced on Sunday.

A total of 69 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded on the Chinese mainland on Saturday and 666 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Saturday, the commission said.

As of Saturday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 85,997 with 4,634 fatalities, while 20 COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from hospitals after recovering.

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 5,323 (5,089 recoveries, 105 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 555 (515 recoveries, seven deaths)
