Chinese mainland reports 24 new COVID-19 cases, 21 from overseas

The Chinese mainland registered 24 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, including three cases of local transmission in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 21 cases from overseas, China's National Health Commission announced on Monday. 

A total of 30 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded on the Chinese mainland on Sunday and 684 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Sunday, the commission said. 

As of Sunday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 86,021 with 4,634 fatalities, while 20 COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from hospitals after recovering. 

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows: 

Hong Kong: 5,330 (5,096 recoveries, 105 deaths) 

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries) 

Taiwan: 558 (518 recoveries, seven deaths)
