International convenience stores expand footprint in China's new first-tier cities

7-Eleven opened its first convenience store in Zhengzhou, central China's Henan Province last Saturday. Customers queued out until midnight and the store's sales volume reached over 650,000 yuan ($97,000) on its opening day. 7-Eleven will open another 10 stores in Zhengzhou this year. The Chinese consumer market continues to attract international brands. Recently, convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Lawson have been eyeing expansions in the country's new first-tier cities.
