2020 U.S. general election: USPS fails to meet deadline

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) responded to a judge's order late Tuesday, revealing that it had failed to meet the court-imposed deadline of 4:30 p.m. to sweep mail processing facilities for delayed election ballots, according to a report from ABC News.

But USPS promised to complete the task in key battleground states before the polls closed.
Judge Emmet Sullivan on Tuesday ordered the Postal Service to "sweep" the facilities between 12:30 PM EST (1730 GMT) and 3:00 PM EST (2000 GMT), the report noted.

In August, USPS has sent letters to states across the country, notifying them of possible delays in the delivery of mail-in ballots that would cause those votes not to be counted on Election Day, November 3.
