Democrats set to hold House majority: AP

The Democrats are on course to hold on to their majority in the House of Representatives.

However, they could well go into the next session of Congress with a smaller majority than before, having lost six seats, even though they entered the race hoping to increase their number.

Among those winning reelection were four congresswomen who shot to prominence in 2018 and have come to be known as The Squad: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ( New York), Ilhan Omar (Minnesota), Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts) and Rashida Tlaib (Michigan).

One of the Republicans' major coups was unseating 15-term Minnesota representative Collin Peterson. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a candidate who has made headlines for spreading baseless QAnon conspiracy theories, meanwhile won a seat in Georgia.
