Chinese mainland reports 28 new COVID-19 cases, 20 from abroad

The Chinese mainland registered 28 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, eight of which are local transmissions in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 20 from overseas, the National Health Commission announced.

A total of 24 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded on the Chinese mainland, while 825 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Wednesday, and 20 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering.

As of Wednesday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases had reached 86,115, with 4,634 fatalities.

The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 5,348 (5,118 recoveries, 106 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 568 (521 recoveries, 7 deaths)
