China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Monday reiterated China's position on developing Sino-U.S. relations, saying China's always in favor of strengthening communication and dialogue with the U.S. administration.
China's position on Sino-U.S. ties is consistent and clear, and we are firmly resolved to safeguard our national sovereignty, security and development interests, said Wang in response to questions on the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
"We have always maintained that China and the United States should manage their differences on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs and promote the healthy and stable development of China-United States relations. We hope that the new U.S. administration and China can meet each other half way," Wang added.
"We understand the result of the presidential election will be determined following U.S. laws and procedures," Wang said, in response to a question why China hasn't congratulated Joe Biden like some of the world leaders.
"We will respond in accordance with international common practice," Wang said.
