The Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has been officially granted the 5A-level rating, the highest rating for Chinese scenic spots, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The ministry issued an announcement on November 2 planning to title the canyon a national 5A-level tourist attraction as it has met corresponding standards and regulations. The publicity period was from November 2 to 8.

Starting in Mainling County and ending in Medog County in southeastern Tibet, the canyon is 504 kilometers in length and 6,009 meters in depth, which is believed to be the longest and deepest grand canyon in the world.
The canyon features rich unique species, various geologic formations, and plateau scenery, and was rated as the most beautiful canyon in China by Chinese National Geographic magazine.

Currently, various tourism projects have been carried out in the canyon, including canyon swings, hot air balloons, cruise ships, and a camping base. It will construct the cableway and develop into a smart scenic spot.
China's tourist attractions are graded on a scale from A to AAAAA, based on a series of criteria at the tourist site, including ease of transportation, sanitary conditions and safety.

Tibet has five national 5A-level tourist attractions. The other four are the Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tashilhunpo Monastery in Xigaze, Basum-tso Lake in Nyingchi.
