A total of 8,717 people in Shanghai have tested negative for the novel coronavirus after the city reported one new local infection on Monday.

Some 186 people who had close encounter with the new case's close contacts all tested negative and are under quarantine, local officials said on Tuesday.

The city also collected 524 samples from the environment and all of them have tested negative as well.
