Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the 20th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In his speech via video link, he hailed the friendship between SCO member states and urged further cooperation and multilateralism. In light of COVID-19, he called for a hotline connecting disease control and prevention centers among SCO members and pledged China's help in addressing their vaccine needs. President Xi said China opposes foreign interference in any of the bloc members' domestic affairs and added that China will take action to improve global governance and maintain international order. The summit is expected to adopt an action plan for the next five years, covering areas such as security, trade and people-to-people exchanges. The SCO was established in 2001 as a multilateral association to ensure security and maintain stability in the Eurasian region.
