30 years on: Shanghai's Pudong New Area – the land of skyscrapers

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Shanghai's Pudong New Area. CGTN has made a series of before-and-after photos to showcase the changes that has taken place in the city. /CGTN

The Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, a city landmark, opened its doors in 1995. /CGTN

The tower was listed among the top 10 new landmarks in Shanghai in 2019. /CGTN

The Century Avenue has the widest road in the Pudong New Area. "The Light of the East," a statue designed by French architect Jean-Marie Charpentier, is a famous landmark here. /CGTN

Built in the 1990s, Nanpu Bridge is the second connector between Pudong New Area and Puxi over the Huangpu River. /CGTN

Pudong International Airport was put into operation in 1999. Its opening made Shanghai the first Chinese city to own two airports. A maglev transit line connecting the airport with Longyang Road opened in 2004. At Longyang Road Station, passengers can transfer to three lines leading to the city center. /CGTN
