At least seven people were killed and another injured in an explosion at an expanded polyethylene factory in north China's Hebei Province on Thursday evening, according to local authorities on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. in the province's Wuji County. 

Search and rescue operations have been completed, and an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
