Flamingos migrate to north China for sixth consecutive year

On November 14, 2020, as temperatures gradually cooled, flocks of flamingo birds migrated to the salt lake area in Yuncheng City of north China's Shanxi Province to spend the winter.

Flamingos are a type of wading bird with reddish or pink feathers. They prefer to live near water in warm areas. Flamingos mainly inhabit around the Mediterranean coast, northwest India, Africa and the West Indies. The bird are not naturally found China. The flamingos seen during the winter in China are migratory birds.

According to local records, the flamingos have been flying to Yuncheng for six consecutive years. The flourishing environment around the salt lake area allows them to find plenty of food, including shrimps, fish and crabs.
