The novel coronavirus was found on packaging of imported frozen beef during a routine examination in Xiamen City of Fujian Province, local officials said on Wednesday.

The 27-tonne batch was imported from Argentina via Xiamen customs.

The goods arrived in Xiamen on Wednesday and before entering the market, officials added.

Disinfection and testing of relevant people and the environment have been ordered, with none having turned out positive so far.

China has stepped up inspection measures on imported frozen products.
