At the just-concluded G20 summit, leaders of the world's biggest economies have called for fair global access to COVID-19 vaccines. They declared support for the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator initiative, which was launched in April. Its aim is to speed up development, production, and equitable access to tests, treatments and vaccines. They also supported the COVAX facility, and the voluntary licensing of intellectual property. The G20 will endorse a plan to extend a freeze in debt service payments by poorest countries to mid-2021. China also called for joint efforts in tackling climate change.

CGTN spoke with Professor John Gong from the University of International Business and Economics. He shared his views on China and the news it will give "positive consideration" to the idea of joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
