The 37-year-old right-hander Charlie Morton joined the Atlanta Braves on a one-year, $15-million contract, announced the team on Tuesday. The two-time All-Star will for sure enhance the team's rotation.

Twelve years ago, Morton made his debut in the major-league in the Braves. In most of the following years, he did not shine much until joining the Houston Astros in 2017. Not only did he win the World Series title with the team, but he also rose to the top class for pitchers since then.

During the two seasons as an Astro, Morton kept a 3.36 ERA in 55 starts with a 29-10 record. More importantly, he won Game 7 of both the American League Championship Series (against the New York Yankees) and the World Series (against the Los Angeles Dodgers) for the team, becoming the first pitcher in major-league history to win a pair of Game 7s in one postseason.

Morton joined the Tampa Bay Rays after that and continued his great performances. Having gone 18-8 with a 3.33 ERA, he ended third in the Cy Young Award voting in 2019. In last season's ALCS, the Rays first led 3-0 but watched the Astros tie it 3-3. In clutch Game 7, Morton threw only 66 pitches to achieve 5.2 shutout innings, helping the Rays advance to the World Series.

Morton can give what the Braves need, a decent improvement on starters. Morton will join Drew Smyly, Max Fried, and Ian Anderson to make one of the best rotations in the AL. Before Mike Soroka comes back from a torn Achilles, Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson will fill in his spot.
