China's manned submersible Shenhai Yongshi, or Deep Sea Warrior, has set off for the western Pacific on a new expedition mission after being transferred from its mothership Tansuo-1 to Tansuo-2. Tansuo-1 returned to Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, while Tansuo-2 departed for a new area of the western Pacific carrying Shenhai Yongshi.
Since August 2017, the manned sub has completed seven voyages in the South China Sea, southwest Indian Ocean, central Indian Ocean and Mariana Trench, conducting 300 dives. It successfully descended to 2,261.9 meters in 1 hour and 4 minutes in the new area, and conducted expedition work for 6 hours and 23 minutes before being safely retrieved.
