An animal stuck in ice in a frozen lake got their attention when three town officials in northwest China's Qinghai Province were driving on a road on November 16.

The animal turned out to be a stranded wild wolf, but that did not stop the three from taking out ropes from their vehicle and starting a rescue mission.

Ice continued to collapse as the two of them tried to put the rope around the shaking wolf's neck, and they stood in the waist-deep water for about 40 minutes until they were finally able to drag the animal onto ice. The temperature was about minus 10 degrees Celsius and their wet pants quickly froze.

The three burst into cheers when they unbound the wolf and let it run away.
