The Chinese mainland registered 21 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including nine domestic infections in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the National Health Commission announced on Thursday.
A total of five new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded, while 321 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Wednesday, and 20 patients were discharged from hospitals.
As of Wednesday, the total confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 86,490, with 4,634 fatalities.
The total confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:
Hong Kong: 5,866 (5,295 recoveries, 108 deaths)
Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)
Taiwan: 623 (553 recoveries, seven deaths)
